Position Summary
Advisor & Coach
- Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of Penn West Health and Safety Management System, with a focus on Facilities and Pipeline Construction process
- Assist Penn West Engineering Group management and employees on the implementation of the Penn West “Safely Managing Accident Reduction Tactics” (SMART) Program and associated processes.
- Mentor employee and contracted Field Health, Safety and Training Coordinators in subject matter specialties.
- Participate in Vendor/Contractor health management and safety assessments.
- Assist in developing and facilitating safety meeting presentations.
- Provide Penn West on-site representatives with required coaching and assistance to help ensure safety management meets identified standards.
- Conduct site hazard assessments, spot site inspections and worker observations as part of worksite visits.
- Review and draft Codes of Practice (COP’s) rules, procedures and guidelines.
Training
- Facilitate SMART program, Penn West Codes of Practices, Guidelines and Policies for the Engineering Group employees and contract staff.
- Identify training needs, assessing and recommending the most efficient way to achieve desired results.
- Assist the Regulatory Affairs group in the identification and communication of updates on jurisdictional regulatory issues.
Event Reporting And Investigation
- Assist in the implementation of the Penn West event management system, including: on-site investigations, cause analysis and action plan development.
- Assist in and ensure quality control of event investigations and cause analysis of high-potential/high risk events.
- Work with relevant management personnel to measure the implementation of recommendations developed for high potential events/high risk events.
Required Experience & Skill Set:
- Minimum 10 years experience in a Health, Safety, and Training management role, with proven leadership experience
- 10 Years of experience in oil and gas operations, preferably Facilities Construction related
- Formal training in Health and Safety Management Systems, CRSP, or other professional designation, preferred.
- Working knowledge of applicable provincial WH&S regulations and standards.
- Ability to identify unsafe behaviors/conditions and recommend controls.
- Have an analytical aptitude with the ability to clearly and positively communicate information, both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to demonstrate competency with computer skills and software, including Microsoft - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access Database, etc.
- Must be able to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
- Travel will be required, with estimated ratio of time in office/field being 60/40.
