Responsibilities:
Design Engineering: particularly in the specialist areas such as designing for lateral buckling, or designing process systems, but also material selection for concept/FEED engineering Structural Integrity Management: particularly related to corrosion-induced fatigue of ageing structures, but also all aspects of corrosion of structures and topsides equipment; mechanical equipment to be covered too
Subsea Integrity Management: a major aspect of subsea IM is internal corrosion assessment, but external corrosion and CP are important elements too Fitness for Service Assessment: materials and degradation of process equipment - in order of priority: hydrocarbon upstream environments, downstream petrochemical refining, chemical plant
Reliability and Maintainability: corrosion is arguably the most important underlying mechanism of equipment failure in the ofshore oil and gas industry Atkins is a consultancy and the role will include fielding queries from a variety of areas while also supporting specific projects. Lateral thinking and proactivity are required characteristics. The role will also include progressively growing a materials and corrosion workstream, through industrial contacts, offered in combination with other Atkins skills and services. Successful candidates may be based in any of Aberdeen, Newcastle, Cranfield, London or Epsom (possibly Glasgow) and should expect to spend time working in all of these offices on occasion.
Requirements:
Honours Degree (or equivalent) in relevant subject
Chartered Engineer
Significant level of relevant experience
Suitable candidates will have principal experience in one of the following areas, but should have a working knowledge of the rest:
Materials selection and testing (metallic and non-metallic)
Corrosion engineering
Welding technology and inspection
Failure mechanisms in different environments
Failure investigations
