Positions available in Northern US Exploration working North American gas plays in Northern
Area Exploration Manager. Locations are Oklahoma City or Houston. Successful candidates will analyze subsurface information to generate new plays and prospects. Skill set includes structural mapping, seismic interpretation, seismic and sequence stratigraphy, and basin risk analysis. The position will involve close teamwork with geophysicists, engineers and land professionals.
- Generate new play opportunities and champion new approaches to generating prospects and plays that exceed economic and reserve thresholds. Participates in (with geophysicists, landmen, and engineers) identification, ranking, leasing, and drilling recommendations for multiple prospects within a given area. Monitor competitor activity to make quick and informed decisions when farm-out opportunities arise. Be an interface to partners on joint projects.
- Plans, develops and makes recommendations for carrying out geological analyses.
- Perform field work as necessary, including well site geology, open-hole logging supervision and field trips to outcrop analogs.
- Assembles, correlates and arranges geological and geophysical data and maps; constructs and maintains original maps and cross sections showing available geotechnical information; develop other informative statistics regarding geotechnical data to aid in more efficient and economical exploitation and development; and advises on the appropriate application of this information and its significance.
- Coordinates, reviews and interprets geotechnical data and conducts studies to evaluate the geological favorability of prospects for the acquisition of profitable reserves of oil and gas. Recommends acquisition of leases, drilling of wells and purchase of producing properties
- Keeps up with new developments in geological and geophysical technology and explores possible applications to exploitation and development activities.
- Represent Marathon's interest in dealing with partners, vendors and competitors.
- Establishes and maintains appropriate professional relationships within the industry and with other organizations and individuals to expand professional knowledge and develop useful source contacts.
