Purpose
The focus of the Fort McMurray Regional Office is the regulation of the mineable oil sands sector. The primary function of the incumbent will be to coordinate reviews of applications received by this office. This may include the coordination of formal hearings and subsequent regulatory steps. The incumbent will work with program managers, engineers, scientists and technologists during the review of all applications.
The incumbent may also work with Board members, senior Board staff, the ERCB Law Branch, other [Employer] offices and provincial and federal regulatory departments, depending on the complexity of the applications assigned.
Responsibilities/Duties
As an application coordinator, you will become an experienced generalist with well developed project management skills.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Receiving and tracking progress of applications received by the Fort McMurray Regional Office.
- Understanding [Employer] applications processes, applying review processes most suitable for each application received, and managing application-specific tasks and issues, as appropriate.
- Leading multidisciplinary teams in the review of applications.
- Being responsible for project scheduling and for meeting deadlines associated with the [Employer] application process.
- Leading routine applications meetings and providing updates to management and team members.
- Preparation for and coordination of hearings including participation in the hearing budgeting process.
- After hearings, preparing subsequent decision reports and files, as required.
- Communicating issues, schedules, and hearing plans with senior ERCB management and other ERCB offices.
- Liaising with other provincial and federal regulatory agencies regarding processes and schedules, including joint coordination of hearings as required.
- Communicating with industry, aboriginal, public and other stakeholders.
- Overnight travel may be required for meetings and/or hearings.
Qualifications
As the ideal candidate, you will possess a minimum of two years of experience in an applications or project coordination role in addition to a Bachelor degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline. Individuals with a technical background related to the oil sands industry and some project management experience will also be considered for this position.
Your experience will also include:
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Experience in the coordination of projects from inception through to implementation
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to interact successfully with stakeholders at all levels
- Self motivated with an appropriate degree of assertiveness, problem solving and decision making abilities
- A reputation as a team player
- Superior writing skills demonstrated by the ability to prepare documents ranging from letters to complex reports
- Ability to discuss issues with members of the public in a clear and confident manner while building trust and rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
- An ability to consider all aspects of an issue and balance interests, including future impact
- An ability to identify limitations and request assistance when appropriate
- Familiarity with ERCB processes and/or oil sands operations is an asset.
