Description
The primary job function is to ensure that the civil design meets Surmont 2’s Basis of Design.  Monitor the civil design to ensure that the company’s standards for safety and operability are met.  Assure compliance with Canadian, International and other codes & standards are meeting the Company’s requirements.
 
Responsibilities
  • Leads the development of the civil philosophy and design basis and ensures adherence to these documents,
  • Provides the overall civil engineering leadership and expertise on the project,
  • Prepare civil standards and specifications for use on the project,
  • Monitors the performance of the design contractor’s civil design team,
  • Development of civil activities within the project team,
  • Leads the development of the key civil engineering project documents including geotechnical reports, civil structural designs, civil bid documents, and building and structural design evaluations,
  • Determine quality assurance requirements for civil design,
  • Participates in our Value Improvement processes (VIPs),
  • Participates in various safety reviews
 
Qualifications
Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Civil engineering degree and a member of APEGGA
  • Professional Engineer with a minimum of 12 years experience
  • Previous exposure to operations of thermal plants (either SAGD or Cyclic Steam) is an asset
  • Must be legally authorized to work on a regular full-time basis in Canada without restrictions
  • Preferred Qualifications/Critical Skills
  • Experienced with traditional structural steel fabrication and erection methods including industry standard steel detailing techniques and the selection of structural steel bolted and welded connections
  • Experience in the design and development of modules,
  • Experience in the design and evaluation of civil/structural components,
  • Experienced with geotechnical design requirements,
  • Experienced in the development of equipment standards and specifications,
  • Knowledgeable in the preparation of RFQ packages and evaluation of vendor quotations
  • Familiar with conditions specific to a northern climate and Muskeg environment
  • Excellent technical and organizational skills,
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills as required for a large project environment
  • Large Project experience is an asset
