These strategies are built on the successes of our state-of-the-art industrial water/wastewater projects in North America and internationally.  To meet these global growth demands, we are recruiting technical and entrepreneurial professionals experienced in industrial water/wastewater treatment to join our team of over 120 process engineers dedicated to our industrial water/wastewater business in addition to our established teams of design engineering resources.  Junior through senior positions in technology/engineering, project and program management, and client service management /business development are available across the US & Canada.
 
Our Calgary office is currently seeking a Senior Industrial Water/Wastewater Engineer with expertise in water/wastewater characterization and basis of design, alternatives evaluation, treatability testing, process definition, conceptual design, estimating, detailed design, construction, commissioning, operations and process optimization.  The successful candidate will have exposure to full service industrial water and wastewater projects, with a focus on detailed design.  The work will be focused primarily on industrial water/wastewater project delivery for oil and gas clientele in the oil sands specifically focusing on mining, SAGD, upgrading and refining of heavy oil and the water envelope associated with these production activities.
 
Primary responsibility will be to assist conceptual development team in ensuring design perspectives are considered in technology selection and leading detailed design teams in finalizing engineering packages. Therefore, it is desirable that the successful candidate have subject matter familiarity with water chemistry and regulatory discharge limits and resulting impact on process definition through detailed design, construction, and operation of: raw water treatment for boiler feedwater application, deoiling systems, and familiarity with water requirements for cooling tower makeup.
 
The ideal candidate will be part of a team in the Calgary office developing the water and process market segment win and deliver new work. Project management experience and/or line-management experience would also be a valuable asset to our team.
 
Primary Skills:
  • Detailed design of chemical/physical wastewater treatment technology,
  • General industrial water systems technology as applied to oil sands, client development skills, and strong written/verbal communications
  • Alternative applicants could have only municipal water and wastewater experience with a strong interest to apply that expertise on industrial clientele.
  • Working knowledge of water composition modeling.
  • Ability to coordinate tasks and projects requirements to balance client workload.
  • Municipal and/or industrial water / wastewater process design
  • Detailed engineering and operations experience including chemical/physical treatment, regulatory compliance
  • Project Management and client communication savvy.
  • Strong leadership, willingness to learn, interpersonal with teaching skills, flexible and adaptable work styles
Preferred Qualifications/Education:
  • MA/MS Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering
  • Years of Experience: 15
Additional Primary Skills:
  • In addition to technical skills, given the right candidate, this position may include line management/leadership opportunities.

  • Serve as primary communication link for providing enterprise and geographic business strategy and other key information to staff.

  • Mentor or facilitate mentoring and help build broad employee networks. Lead staff development and succession planning activities for group staff.

  • Understand the margin implications of project performance. Work to ensure that staff are performing satisfactorily in the areas of quality of work, project schedule, budget and scope, and work approaches on an ongoing basis and take swift corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Serve as internal coach  for development of proposals, change orders and other scope and budget requests, an monitor financial health of projects.
  • Engage a Senior or higher level Technologist in the firm to coach and mentor staff in understanding and use of the tools, processes and best practices.
  • Provide primary project assignment, workload leveling, proactive staff hiring/reduction and management recommendations for assigned staff.
  • Proactively monitor, solicit input, and provide regular feedback to staff on individual performance against project schedule, budget, scope and quality.
  • Prepare for, attend, and actively participate in the annual salary setting activities, serving in the role as primary advocate for group staff.
