Description:
Reports to the Drilling Manager; located in Calgary; responsible for providing leadership to and direction for the Oil Sands Drilling Engineering team.
Responsibilities:
Primary duties include, but not limited to:
- Supervising and directing teams of Delineation and SAGD drilling engineers.
- Leads planning and engineering support for SAGD programs.
- Directs planning and engineering support for delineation programs.
- Oversees planning and engineering of special purpose SAGD and thermal wells.
- Ensures Joint Venture compliance in partnered programs.
- Responsible for effective interaction w Subsurface team and partners.
- Responsible for government applications and reporting.
- Directs Wellview, SAP and other process initiatives to ensure seamless project reporting and tracking.
- Works in association with Drilling Superintendents to ensure thorough and timely project planning;
- Assists in scheduling projects and managing the rig schedule to provide rig “level loading” to minimize stand by time;
- Mentors Drilling Engineers;
- Leverages vendors to identify new processes and new technology leading to improved drilling efficiency and cost savings;
- Serves as technical liaison for Global and Division procurement efforts;
Qualifications
Basic/Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering;
- Minimum 12 years of related industry experience;
- 5+ years Oil Sands and SAGD experience;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Pragmatic, grounded and rounded;
- Proficient in Wellview and familiar with SAP;
- Proficient in MS Office programs
- Legally authorized to work on a regular full-time basis in Canada without restrictions
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong preference for candidates with experience in Canadian Oil Sands.
