PRIMARY JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist Operations management and employees with the implementation of the Penn West “Safely Managing Accident Reduction Tactics” (SMART) System and associated processes
· Assist with the training of our SMART Program
· Assist with SMART program document mgmt and program review
· Participate in Vendor Management health and safety assessments
· Assist in developing and facilitating operations safety meeting presentations
· Conduct site hazard assessments, spot site inspections and worker observations
· Assist with drafting of Codes of Practice (COP’s) rules, procedures and guidelines
· Assist in maintaining the area and site MSDS Database and binders
· Assist in maintaining the ERP Program and ERP drills and Exercises
· Assist with New Employee and Contractor on-site orientation process
· Assist in the training of Penn West Health and Safety Codes, Guidelines and Policies with employees and contract staff
· Assist in the identification and communication of updates on jurisdictional regulatory issues
· Identify training needs, assess and recommend the most efficient way to achieve desired results
· Coordinate H&S training activities
· Assist with investigations of all unacceptable risk events
· Ensure all events and inspections are entered into databases
· Conduct follow-up to ensure recommendations are completed
· Assist with the trending statistics, stewardship reporting & tracking.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILL SET:
- 3-5 years experience in oil and gas operations is a definite asset.
- Experience in a lead safety role would be an asset.
- Training in Health and Safety Management Systems would be an asset.
- Have an understanding of the available legislation or where to locate.
- Ability to identify unsafe behaviors/conditions and recommend controls.
- Have an analytical aptitude with the ability to clearly and positively communicate information both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to demonstrate competency with computer skills and software, including Microsoft - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access Database, etc.
- Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Must live in the Slave Lake area.
- Weekly travel is required. Field observation is required.
