Overview
Responsible for the procurement of goods and services as assigned, to ensure that quality, cost effective products are delivered in a timely manner. Executes procurement strategies for assigned components.
Qualifications
- BA or BA degree in Business Administration, Procurement, Operations or related field preferred or one to two years internal experience with exposure to materials and procurement and some product knowledge.
- Zero to two years experience in purchasing or materials management. Technical, metallurgical or engineering background helpful.
- Must demonstrate strong planning and interpersonal skills to interact with suppliers and co-workers in a team-based environment. Must have ability to handle multiple tasks in a high stress environment.
- Must have strong PC experience including knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software. Exposure to mainframe system (MANMAN) preferred. Bi-lingual preferred.
Job Description
- Reviews purchase requests for assigned material or components and verifies nomenclature and specifications. Gains product knowledge and begins learning more advanced purchasing concepts, practices and procedures.
- Creates and releases purchase orders for items covered by previously negotiated contracts in conformance with current local and corporate operating procedures.
- Works with product teams or other procurement staff to generate Request for Quotations (RFQ’s) for new or modified parts. Corresponds with or interviews approved suppliers to obtain price, specifications and delivery information. May research and source suppliers for new items, under supervision.
- Expedites delivery by contacting vendors and shippers to ensure that merchandise, supplies and equipment are forwarded on specified shipping date.
- May assist other departments with problem resolution involving differences between purchase orders and delivered item, quantity and/or price.
- Maintains and tracks computerized procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery of product, and quality or performance. Prepares summaries used to evaluate supplier performance.
- Assists other staff members with procurement related activities as assigned.
