Overview
A global Project Management Services team exists in EP Projects whose mission is to develop and deliver the project management services for all of the EP development projects worldwide. Within this Project Management Services Team, the Senior Project Cost or Planning Engineer will coordinate the cost and/or schedule management for one or more of those projects.
Job Description
The principal accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Establish and develop the project structure.
- Perform, coordinate and compile cost and planning activities and provide support to the Project Manager and Project Services Lead including planning, scheduling, progress reporting, forecasting and independent progress verifications checks of performance of work as well as capturing projects risks impacts in the project cost & schedule.
- Developing and up-keeping of an integrated master project schedule/plan and/or cost plan.
- Incorporate ranges of uncertainty to manage project plans (ie. P10 – P90)
- Support for project benchmarking activities for the project plans and resourcing plan.
- Liaise with the project team to monitor progress, identify variances and recommend recovery actions
- Report and analyze VOWD progress to Project Lead
- Prepare detailed monthly cost and schedule reports and analysis.
- Work closely with the project teams to monitor Management of Change process, identify cost and/or schedule impacts of proposed changes and incorporate those impacts into the Project Work Plan.
- Upon completion of Project, prepare detailed Close-Out Cost Reports per the Process Guidelines. This is mainly an analysis comparison report between the various estimates produced for a given project.
- After a brief training period with the Shell tools, systems and procedures be self-sufficient in the job responsibilities.
- Perform and/or coordinate ad-hoc special (planning/scheduling) studies as required.
Key CHALLENGES:
- The customer base is both in USA and international projects. It will be a challenge to develop and produce cost and schedule reports that are standardized, but still flexible enough to meet the various particularities of the different projects.
- Some international travel may be required, depending upon the locations of the customer and the major contractors.
- SIEP EPT-P Project Management Services has recently focused on probabilistic cost and schedule analysis. It is still fairly new in some areas of project management and needs to be “sold” to the project organization.
Competencies Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Management, Engineering or Business with not less than ten (10) years experience in project cost and/or planning in the Offshore, Oil or Chemical Design or Construction fields. Experience directly related to execution of complex offshore engineering projects is essential, especially with International EPIC projects.
- If no degree – minimum of fifteen (15) years experience in cost and schedule management.
- Capable of managing cost and/or schedule for multiple complex projects.
- Capable of analyzing and preparing monthly cost reports to express concerns in problem areas Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles. PMP certification is desirable, but not required.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Experienced with network planning structures and techniques, experienced user of Primavera Project Planner (P3) and P3e/c and Microsoft Project.
- Proficient with the use of standard office software such as Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint. Experience with Microsoft Access, and @Risk is an advantage.
- Working experience with SAP Atlas is desirable.
- Awareness/knowledge of Life Cycle Cost Probabilistic Analysis, Risk Identification and Management, and Decision /Influence diagram techniques will be an advantage.
- Must have a “Team attitude”, be self-motivated and be willing to support other groups and projects when required.
