Job Description:
- Undertaking logistics surveys to determine the key issues related to transportation activities to sites, including customs regulations on imports, determing the Logistics risks and how to mitigate them.
- Determination of the logistics strategy (with others as appropriate) to ensure the most efficient, economical and safe transportation of equipment and materials to meet site need dates.
- Determine the scope of work of third party suppliers (i.e. freight forwarders, import customs clearance Company's and carriers) and participation in the procurement process from pre-award to completion of the service, managing the commercial aspects of subcontracts one in place.
- Specifying the requirements for shipping/customs documentation, also packing and making requirements to be include in Request for Quatations and Purchase Orders.
- Determining the modes of general transport i.e. road, sea air or rail and specialized modes such as marine vessels as required.
- Coordinating and managing all freight movements undertaken directly or through third parties for all Comapnay materials and equipment to ensure on time shipment and delivery.
- Manages Customs clearance activities undertaken by Customs Agents and intervenes where delays are incurred and ensures remedial action is taken.
- Maintenance and issue of periodic status reporting on shipping & logistics.
- Leads teh assessment of subcontractor performance, and close-out activities on freight forwarders, import customs clearance Company's and carriers in accordance with agreed procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field. Equivalent experience can substitute degree requirement.
- Minimum of 7 years experience in international logistics and 2 years management experience.
- Knowledge of custom regulations in the country of operation.
- Knowledge of international laws and regulations in the import/export of goods.
- Understanding of custom regulations in the countries the Company operates or is looking into for future projects.
- Understand and know the different modes for shipping and the alternative routings to each destination.
- Understand custom regulations for shipping overseas and domestically.
- Strong negotiating skills
