Our client is a leader in engineering consulting. They have an immediate need for a Junior- Intermediate Structural Engineer. This is a permanent, full time position.
Responsibilities:
· Analysing suitable configurations of the basic structural components of a building or other structure;
· Calculating the pressures, stresses and strains that each component, such as a beam or lintel, is likely to experience from other
· Considering the strength of different materials, eg concrete, steel, wood to see how their inclusion may necessitate a change of structural design
· Liaising with other designers, including architects, to reach agreement about safe designs and how they may fit in with the aesthetic concept of the construction
· Examining structures that are at risk of collapse and advising on measures to be taken to improve their structural integrity, such as recommending removal or repair of defective parts or re-building the entire structure (the Leaning Tower of Pisa was recently saved from collapse by structural engineers)
· Liaising closely with construction contractors to ensure that newly erected buildings are structurally sound
· Applying expert knowledge of the forces that act on various structures
· Using computer-aided design (CAD) technology for simulation purposes
Requirements:
· Degree in Structural Engineering from a recognized university
· A P.Eng. designation from Ontario
· 2-5 years structural engineering experience in structural steel, concrete, masonry and wood design relating to foundations, buildings and other structures
· Experience in the coordination of structural components with architectural, process equipment and mechanical building systems
· Strong technical background in structural engineering, with specific project experience in both public and private sectors
· Proficient in using AutoCAD
· Team player with the proven ability to work independently with minimum direction
· Hard worker, who is eager and willing to assume responsibility
· Commitment and dedication to client service as well as technical excellence
· Demonstrated and effective communication skills and the ability to handle changing needs while working effectively with diverse groups.
· Strategic thinker with the ability to determine what work is required and draw rational conclusions from all available information
