This newly created position will report to the Operations Controller and will be responsible for the financial management of the Trust's capital assets. To be considered for this position you must have the proven ability to follow through on initiative, go above and beyond your normal job scope and take ownership for the implementation of procedures and controls to ensure that the company's investments are adequately safeguarded and properly accounted for. With the desire to engage in continuous development within a high growth company, your exceptional analytical and problem solving skills will be necessary to administer complex fiscal services and activities to critically and constructively analyze financial operations and the impact of growth opportunities on the capital reporting function. The Manager Capital Reporting will also be responsible for leading the conversion of capital reporting to International Financial Reporting Standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Preparing capital asset reports and analysis.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of capital asset policies and procedures to ensure adherence to GAAP and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintaining effective relationships among accounting, operations, business development and engineering departments for all capital asset issues and reporting.
  • Preparing capital reporting information and analysis for the management report.
  • Reviewing journal voucher requests and project capitalization.
  • Administering and performing and testing of controls.
  • Performing capital versus operating determinations.
  • Release and monitor all approvals for expenditures.
  • Exercising professional judgment based on knowledge of the business, and accounting theory and concepts to ensure transactions are reasonable.
  • Discussing difficult or unusual matters, with recommendations, with senior levels.
  • Assisting and providing backup, as required, for other capital accounting duties.
  • Reconciling capital asset accounts and investigating and correcting related issues.
  • Performing research to assist in the development of systems and procedures.
  • Participating in audits and working with internal and external auditors.
  • Facilitating the complex process of calculating and recording asset retirement amounts and ensuring that the ARO database is kept current.
  • Monitoring redeployment of equipment to ensure accurate accounting
  • Coordinating the successful resolution of issues with the Technical Services group.
  • Carrying out special projects or other duties as assigned.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly capital entries and capital reporting packages, including amortizations, material transfers, accruals, and disposals.
  • Administer AFE Navigator and the Fixed Assets Sub Ledger System in compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain capital and AFE policies and procedures, and provide training to team members.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of new capital initiatives.
  • Provide capital asset information and ad-hoc reports to various stakeholders as required.
Qualifications:
  • Accounting degree or other equivalent qualification combined with a professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA) Working knowledge of GAAP and C-SOX guidelines, accounting systems, fixed asset systems, capital leasing issues, environmental accounting issues and reporting tools.
  • Five to seven years of progressively senior level experience in accounting/finance
  • Enthusiastic, innovative and motivated team player with effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles generally accepted in Canada
  • Ability and desire to apply expertise in International Financial Reporting Standards
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of QByte FM and AFE Navigator would be an asset
