Summary:
- Technical Lead for Geomatic Engineering reporting to the Geomatics Technology Officer (GTO)
- Oversee that engineering practices are being followed on Geomatics projects
- Provide guidance and mentoring to engineers on how Geomatic Engineering is practiced on hydrocarbon, infrastructure, and other projects
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of Geomatic Engineering practices, go-bys, and technical standards
- Assist with recruitment and company relationship building
- Advise on training and development opportunities to improve team’s skills
- Work with people with various cultural backgrounds, levels of education, and experience in the Geomatic Engineering, GIS, and other engineering fields
- Cope with conflicting points of view, function under pressure, and demonstrate discretion, integrity, fair-mindedness, and a persuasive, congenial personality
- Understand our business and the ability to cultivate an environment of trust and collaboration
- Speak and write effectively
Responsibilities
1.Engineering Technical Material
- Interface with project managers and GTO to determine best practices on geomatics projects
- Interface with business manager to contribute technical information for proposals
- Understand and implement the [Company] (WP) Enterprise Management System (EMS) and standards of practice to Geomatics Engineering
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of Geomatic Engineering practices, go-bys, and standards which are used by technical teams performing geomatics throughout [Company] offices world wide.
- Address specific technical issues that may be experienced by technical teams performing geomatics throughout [Company] offices world wide
- Work with GTO and other technical leads to prepare budgets and requisitions for items specific to the engineering discipline
- Maintain 75% personal chargeability
2.Recruitment
- Assist business manager with job descriptions
- Screen applicants for qualifications
- Interview and test applicants
- Be available for first-day orientations with new employees
3.Development and Training
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to staff in all WP offices
- Assist business manager with creating a training budget for the team (only areas that pertain to engineering, not all training)
- Provide recommendations to employees on career and training opportunities
- Participate in the annual and semi-annual reviews
Qualifications
- Must be a Professional Engineer in Alberta (P.Eng APEGGA registered)
- Experience with an engineering and surveying practice with a minimum of 7 years direct industry experience
- Experience with pipeline and oilfield surveys, or,
- Power transmission and distribution
- Thorough experience using GIS and CAD
- Must have excellent communication and documentation skills
