Our Sunrise Oil Sands Mega Project is seeking a Cost Control Lead to implement cost control procedures and practices.
Reporting directly to the Sunrise Project Controls Manager, you will direct the Sunrise Project Cost Control group, ensuring that the project is completed in a cost efficient manner, and informing management of improvement measures to control costs. You will provide accurate cost reporting and control on a range of Engineering, Procurement and Construction Contracts to be awarded by the Project Team. You will liaise with key players so that effective cost decisions can be reached to keep the project within budget.

- Acting as the primary liaison for all cost control related items of the Sunrise Oil Sands Project
- Implementing cost control procedures and practices
- Working with estimators to add value to the control budgets
- Mentoring cost technicians to raise skill level
- Overseeing the application of Information Technology on Project Controls
- Preparing/managing budgets and forecasts in conjunction with budget holders
- Assisting in identifying/monitoring risk and control measures
- Reviewing and managing contingencies
- Assuring and controlling the quality of project cost activities
- Acquiring and handling information needed for Cost Controls
- Identifying and quantifying emerging changes and reporting on cost deviations
- Preparing monthly cost reports on Kildrummy costManager for Project Manager
- Reviewing/validating requisitions and invoices and ensuring Project/AFE/Cost Codes are accurately identified
- Providing accrual information to the Finance Department
- Controlling and reporting on cost phasing and ensuring effective use of budget by forecasting spend rates
- Ensuring cost reporting is realistic
- Evaluating Cost Controls performance and Project Information & Data
- Closing out projects
- Travel is required up to 10% of the time to Fort McMurray for this position.
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
- Relevant post-secondary education in Engineering and/or Accounting
- 10 years of cost control experience is required
- Experience with a major oil company is an asset
- Experience with billion dollar, mega projects is essential
- Knowledge of standard engineering documents, drawings and equipment lists, etc.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office software is required
- Experience using Kildrummy CostMANAGER would be a definite asset
- Experience using SAP is an asset
- Above average analytical skills in order to secure relevant information/data and identify key issues and relationships to determine appropriate course of action to rectify deficiencies
- Excellent team player with the ability to work collaboratively with people internal and external to the Company’s organization
- Strong leadership orientation that includes coaching, development of staff, and guidance of individuals toward goal achievement
- Exceptional communication skills with an ability to converse professionally and effectively with internal and external clients from all levels of an organization
