Responsibilities:
Performs construction quality control activities in a technical or administrative capacity.
Responsible for the performance of on-site tasks related to quality control compliance.
Ensures inspection duties are in accord with quality program.
Responsible for documentation of inspection activities and maintenance of quality control records.
Generally assigned to a single discipline activity interfacing with a multi-discipline operation.
May have leadership responsibility providing technical direction to less experienced construction quality control engineers.
Assigned to a single discipline within a single area of a project.
Receives technical supervision in the form of direction.
May-provide technical and administrative guidance to clerical and para-technical personnel.
On a large job, performs a variety of assigned duties, interfacing with related tasks being performed within a single discipline.
On a medium to small job, performs assigned duties relating to all activities within a single discipline and interfacing with related tasks being performed in more than one discipline.
The Piping Inspector is responsible to the Lead Piping Engineer for adherence to specification and code requirements for all piping installation work. Provides technical assistance to the Piping Superintendent, Site Superintendent and Lead Piping Engineer and keeps them informed on matters relating to quality control. Establishes with the Subcontractors, procedures on testing, installation and turnover of the various systems. Is aware of Subcontractor priorities for mechanical installation.
Reviews the Subcontractors Project Schedule.
Performs inspections of all piping work in progress on a continuing basis, witnesses tests and completes final P&ID check prior to turnover to the client.
Assists the Piping Superintendent and Lead Piping Engineer in solving piping problems. Issues job wide inspection criteria that may be over and above the normal piping inspection.
Executes field take offs from IFC drawings and provides input for quantity tracking.
Verifies installed quantities reported by the Subcontractors.
Assists Lead Piping Engineer on piping related problems to obtain vendor information, substitutions and other design related piping problems.
Assists the Subcontract Administrator and Lead Piping Engineer in the quality control and final check out of Subcontractor’s piping work.
Assists in checking invoices of Subcontractors or vendors for piping related items or materials.
Assists the Field Procurement Supervisor in the inspection and receipt of piping material and in the setting up of jobsite controls for storage and protection of piping materials.
Verifies record prints with as-built information are being maintained by the Subcontractor.
Determines the scope of any piping areas not shown on the normal piping drawings, such as package unit interconnection piping, and lubrication systems on equipment.
Monitors the offsite spool fabrication to coordinate the proper priority flow of spools to the site.
Also maintains updated delivery schedules from the fabricator.
Monitors code designed systems to coordinate flow of information to welding and material control to properly control this documentation.
Monitors Subcontractor welding operations, including: material control, welder qualification, weld quality, records maintenance, NDE, and heat treatment.
