Job Description:
- [Company]is looking for an experienced user interface software developer for our Austin, TX office.
- The qualified candidate must specialize in developing easy-to-use interactive user interfaces for a highly-visual engineering application.
- The GUI is used to define geologic models and view simulation results, and combines traditional menu and table driven data inputs, building models from templates, 2D and 3D visualization, graphing engineering data, and data import and export.
The GUI controls a mature modeling engine that incorporates finite elements, unstructured meshing, and advanced numerics to model the fluid flow of oil, gas and water in underground reservoirs. This product is sold commercially and is used by [Company]Engineers for modeling the performance of reservoirs, wells and completions to support decisions in the development and management of oil and gas reservoirs worldwide.
The GUI team is currently supporting, refactoring and extending an existing user interface that is based on Java Swing, ported from WFC. The team is preparing to re-architect and implement a next-generation interface that provides a revolutionary style of interaction with the user that is even more visual. We are looking for an experienced and innovative developer with design and development experience to augment our team. This is an opportunity for the candidate to enter at the start of the project, influence the architecture and design, and follow it through to completion. The team must also continue to support the existing interface while the new one is being developed.
Experience / Qualifications:
- The successful applicant will have a solid computer science background
- demonstrated project experience in designing, implementing and delivering state-of-the-art user interfaces.
- Projects will require strong working programming knowledge, and experience with user interface design and implementation within a defined software process.
- Demonstrated experience in object-oriented coding of scientific applications is a must.
- The development platform for the existing product is Java Swing.
- Strong Java Swing skills are required for our existing product.
- The future product development platform is still under consideration.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in maintenance and extension of the existing interface
- Participate in the architecture, design and development of next-generation high-performance GUI component of Resolve modeling package
- Identify, design and implement novel interactive techniques to improve the ability of Resolve users to visualize and manipulate complex reservoir descriptions and view reservoir characteristics as they change in time and space
- Use software development process that ensures high reliability and high performance software
- Work with others on the team to improve the ease of use of the user interface.
- The team includes other software developers, domain experts, services modeling engineers, clients and management
Job Skills / Education Required:
- Bachelors or Master's in Computer Science
- Prior experience delivering user interfaces for complex engineering applications, commercial/enterprise software
- Object-oriented design (OOD) and programming (OOP)
- GUI programming using commercial tools, libraries and environments
- Windows development environment
- Excellent intercommunication skills, oral and written, in English
- Ability to work in a team setting
- 3 to 10 years of experience software development experience
- U.S. citizenship or permanent U.S. residency
Desired Additional Experience:
- Prior experience in the application of visual interfaces to understanding of oil and gas reservoirs
- Experience in Java3D/JOGL, OpenInventor/OpenGL, Carnac, C++, CVS, virtual reality, CAD/CAM development
- Prior experience in an Agile development environment
