Description
Our Emergency Response department has two openings for a Fire Specialist/EMR.  This position requires participation as a member of a team and a structured incident command system.
 
We are looking for two highly motivated individuals with strong organizational skills and the ability to set and meet both individual and team goals.  You will be assigned to a 12 hour shift schedule (days & nights).
 
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Responding to emergencies, which may include fire, rescue, medical and hazardous materials
  • Assume sector leader duties for volunteer response teams
  • Participate in fire/safety audit programs
  • Participate in the development and delivery of training programs
  • Operate and maintain fire protection equipment
  • Participate in fire prevention and preparedness programs through involvement in simulations, education and communication to stakeholders
  • Participate in post-response defusing, debriefing and critiques
  • Perform and support assigned team administration goals
  • Annually complete the Company’s Fire Fighter Physical Performance Assessment and medical examination
  • Personal continuing education within the corporate Technician Development program
  • Willing to enroll in any training that the department deems a business need
 
Qualifications
The successful candidate should be diplomatic, flexible, and be able to take directions well. Strong organization skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks is a must. Should be resourceful, possess a strong work ethic, and have good time-management skills. Must be able to work independently without supervision. The ability to remain calm and manage within an unpredictable, fast paced environment is required.
 
Requirements:
  • Class 5 Driver's License
  • Be at minimum, a registered EMR with Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Proof of Security clearance/check must be provided at time of interview - candidate must be bondable
  • NFFA 1001 or equivalent experience
Assets:
  • Registered EMT-A with Alberta College of Paramedics
  • 1002 NFPA Fire Qualified
  • Air Brake Endorsement
  • Class 3/4 Driver's License
