Job Description:
[Company]is accepting online applications for the position of Technologist, located in McKittrick or Fellows, California.
Overview:
The Technologist will support the Midway/Cymric Technical Team in coordinating the management, manipulation, quality control, cleaning, and processing of multiple types of geologic data (particularly well data) with the Information Technology department.
Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Assist the Information Technology department in Midway/Cymric geologic data management, working with area geologists, technologists, other technicians and engineers.
- Provide procedures and work flows in areas of expertise.
- Provide independent development of sidetrack and replacement well recommendations.
- Train others on systems and applications.
- Identify opportunities for system improvements.
- Use UNIX skills to perform complex tasks in file management, editing, printing and script writing.
- Create complex geologic products (e.g., facies maps, cross-sections and log displays).
- Act as the expert, mentor, and resource to others in the San Joaquin Valley Business Unit for well data-related issues.
- Detect / identify and quickly resolve data problems.
- Participate on multi-disciplinary project teams.
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Geology or Geography; or a minimum of 10 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications (predominantly Excel) and Stratworks.
- Experience using Geolog and OpenWorks to create geologic cross sections.
- The ability to generate well location maps for customers using applications such as MS Access and VBA programming.
- Knowledge of SAP, UBW and LOWIS.
- Intermediate skills using ESRI's Arc-View GIS suites of products with basic understanding of projections, spheroids, objects, leases, cartography, directional wells and logs.
- Experience using AutoCAD and manipulating GIS vector, raster and grid data.
- The ability to perform routine and involved work independently.
- Proficient in Surfer mapping.
- The ability to independently progress to projects of higher responsibility, including developing sidetrack and replacement well recommendations.
- The capability to work well on a team, interacting regularly with peers, team members and other disciplines.
- Demonstrated expertise in problem solving and data analysis.
- The ability to recognize diversity as a core value of the company and appreciates the experiences others bring to the table.
