Position Overview:
[Company] is looking for a talented GIS Data Management Specialist to lead Nexen's GIS data management team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dedicated and professional [Company] team in Calgary. This individual would guide and participate in the design and implementation of a GIS data strategy to deliver accurate and reliable geographic data to enterprise users and also provide GIS data management solutions to business units.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
· Promote the use of GIS data management to all of Nexen's business units (through documentation, presentations, training, and referrals)
· Experience with spatial data management principles and experience with geodatabase schema design (CASE tools, Visio, database design, etc.) is required
· GIS data management software experience with Visio and ArcCatalog
· Experience with geodatabase data modeling from conceptual level to physical implementation
· Understanding of metadata standards and experience in maintaining enterprise metadata
· Knowledge of the Public Petroleum Data Model (PPDM)
· Experience with ArcMap and extensions
· Have worked with Personal, File and SDE geodatabases
· Knowledge of map projections, datums, and transformations
· The candidate should possess strong analytical and problem solving skills.
· Good technical writing and oral skills
· Ability to work independently and also as part of a team
· Ability to interface with clients, industry peers, internal colleagues, and management in the execution of duties. The successful candidate will be expected to report the progress of the projects and present results to the customer and at professional conferences, thus requiring excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize multiple assignments for maximum productivity.
Education/Experience Requirements:
· 5 years of related GIS experience is required
· Knowledge of Oil and Gas Industry (geology, geophysics, reservoir engineering, etc.) would be an asset
· Degree in GIS, Geography, Remote Sensing, Geology, Geomatics Engineering or a closely related discipline is required
· Demonstrable organizational and communication skills
