Job Description:
This position can be filled at either Engineer I, II or III depending on candidates skills and experience.
Develop, design, analyze, evaluate and recommend automation and control systems to ensure efficient, safe and profitable facility and pipeline operations.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- design, develop and program software for real time programmable logic controllers (PLC) and distributed process control systems (DCS)
- design and develop graphical user screens utilized within human machine interfaces (HMI's)
- design and configure control communication networks
- configure desktop operator workstations
- design process control flow diagrams
- design piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s)
- procure control instrumentation and digital process control equipment
- develop specifications for instrumentation, electrical power requirements, hazardous location electronic control equipment
- develop material requisitions; review bids for equipment and service contracts
- design digital electronic control panel drawings for placement in hazardous location
- coordinate and manage projects; coordinate control system start-up and commissioning
- support, maintain, and troubleshoot electronic and pneumatic control systems
- provide time and costs estimates for automation projects
- evaluate development costs, review software and drawings, consult with vendors and users, and recommend
- contracting or internal development; coordinate efforts of system/vendor personnel during implementation
- develop technical documentation, training manuals, and standard operating procedures; conduct training classes for system users.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- undergraduate degree in engineering
- knowledge of engineering principles, standards and practices
- ability to plan, organize, and schedule work independently
- ability to communicate effectively and develop rapport with internal and external customers
Prefer:
- degree Electrical engineering
- three years progressive experience with digital process controllers, instrumentation and computer systems
- demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of programming, analysis, and design
- ability to do real time process software programming (DCS / PLC)
- knowledge of desktop software configuration, and networking/communications
- knowledge of natural gas equipment and components: engines, turbines, electric motors, compressors, and valve operations
- knowledge of National Electric Code, hazardous area classification, transmitters, RTD's, thermocouples, solenoids, switches, Ethernet, and graphical displays.
Education Required:
Bachelors in Engineering
Prefer:
degree in Electrical Engineering
Working Conditions:
- may be subject to dust, debris and high noise levels, extreme temperatures and weather conditions during site visits or construction; may be subject to hazards, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current and exposure to solvents, lubricants and other chemicals during site visits
- travel is required; typically less than 40%, but may be extensive at times
- operate with minimal supervision
- on call 24-hours a day - 7 days a week (rotating call shared with others in department)
- safety-sensitive position subject to random drug testing; pre-transfer drug test will be required for successful candidate not currently in a safety-sensitive position
- must possess a valid driver's license
