Position Summary
 
[Employer], a division of [Company] is currently seeking a dynamic team member for a challenging opportunity as the Junior Accountant located in our Medicine Hat office.
 
The Junior Accountant provides junior to intermediate level accounting and general administrative support to the all functions within Transco South.  Utilizes previous experience and formal training to demonstrate knowledge of policy and procedure and team/department goals.
 
Provides input and analyses into specific areas as requested.  Develops a broad familiarity with processes to select and utilize available resources to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness in completing routine assignments and special projects / tasks.
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Recurring journal entries, accruals, and allocations;
  • Accurate and timely reconciliation of  divisional balance sheet accounts including bank reconciliations;
  • Analysis of revenue accounts to determine appropriate elimination entries;
  • Reviewing inter-company account balances including investigation of variances and adjustments;
  • Reviewing divisional administrative income and expense accounts;
  • Assistance with the preparation of divisional monthly operating reports;
  • Assistance with the annual budgeting process;
  • Adherence to deadlines;
  • Understanding of systems used to perform job duties;
  • Make recommendations and implements improvements to work methods;
  • Other duties as assigned.
The following skills, experience and qualifications are strongly encouraged:
  • Accpac knowledge preferred;
  • Post-secondary Diploma or certificate from an accredited Business Administration technical school or college;
  • Strong computer skills and advanced knowledge of the entire Microsoft Office Suite, particular attention to MS Excel and Word;
  • 2+ years progressively responsible experience in an accounting function;
  • Proficiency with AccPac an asset;
  • Self motivated, proven organizational skills;
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Confidentiality and professionalism.
